What Is Remedial & Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic massage is a personalised treatment designed to address muscle tension, physical discomfort and the effects of everyday stress. Treatments are tailored to your individual needs, whether you’re managing ongoing tension, recovering from injury, supporting your body through pregnancy, or simply needing time to reset.

Our approach combines therapeutic massage with an understanding of how the body and nervous system work together. Depending on what you need, Cindy may use deep tissue, sports massage or myofascial techniques. The aim is always the same: to reduce tension, improve movement and support your body’s natural ability to recover and restore balance.

How Massage Can Help

From acute injuries to chronic, long-term concerns, our practitioners offer specialised care for:

Why Choose The Body Workshop

Cindy has been part of our team for over a decade. She takes the time to understand your body, your history and your day-to-day life, and builds each treatment around that rather than a set routine.

You’ll find us on Rosebank Road in Avondale, close to New Lynn, Blockhouse Bay and Mt Albert, with Thursday appointments at our Waiatarua clinic for those nearer the Waitākere Ranges and Titirangi.

Is Massage ACC-Funded at The Body Workshop

Massage at The Body Workshop is a private service and isn’t ACC-funded. If you’re recovering from an injury, it can sit alongside your ACC-covered physiotherapy as complementary care.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Cindy will start by talking with you about what's going on, your health history and what you'd like to get out of the session. She'll check in with you throughout, so the pressure and focus feel right, and you'll leave with a few simple ideas to help you look after your body between visits.

Key Benefits of Traditional Acupuncture

Therapeutic massage goes beyond short-term relaxation. By combining targeted hands-on techniques with an understanding of the nervous system, regular treatments create lasting changes in how your body feels, moves, and heals.

Meet Cindy, Remedial & Therapeutic Massage Therapist

Cindy brings 24 years' experience and a Diploma in Clinical Therapeutic Massage. Her work has taken her from elite sport to hospice care, and her own background in waka ama and kickboxing gives her a real feel for what training and everyday life ask of the body. She's especially interested in how the body and nervous system work together, and she also runs the clinic's Unity Sessions.

A Few Common Questions

What's the difference between remedial and therapeutic massage?
The two terms overlap a lot. Both describe hands-on treatment aimed at specific muscle and soft-tissue problems, and we use both to describe Cindy’s work.
Not quite. Deep tissue massage is one technique that uses firmer pressure to reach deeper muscle layers. Cindy uses it when it suits you, as part of a broader therapeutic treatment.
Yes. Massage can complement physiotherapy and acupuncture during your recovery. Please note that massage at The Body Workshop is a private service and isn’t ACC-funded.
Can I see Cindy at the Waiatarua clinic?
Yes. Cindy is at our Waiatarua clinic on Thursdays and at our Avondale clinic for the rest of her working week.
Yes. Cindy offers gentle, supportive pregnancy massage, adapted for comfort at each stage.
